Martha Baartz

Martha Baartz is an established first call freelance Saxophonist, who has a Masters in Saxophone (Jazz) at The Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. She has travelled and performed extensively at renowned Australian Jazz Venues such as Melbourne’s Bennett’s Lane and Sydney’s Side on Cafe and many local and international festivals including the world famousGlastonbury Festival and The Edinburgh Festival.

 Martha is also a composer arranger, most well known for her compositions performed in The Baartz Freeman Sextet and on albums “South East” and “12 Salutations” which are signed to labels Move Records and Newmarket, respectively.


Martha has received Composition and recording grants, has recorded for the ABC and has studied in New York with people such as Barry Harris, (pianist with Charlie Parker) and David Liebman, (Saxophonist with Miles Davis). She has performed with Australian Jazz greats such as Bob Sedergreen, Michelle Nicole and Sandy Evans, and International Motown artists, Martha and the Vandelas, The Supremes and The Miracles as well as Australian Rock legend, Jimmy Barnes. She has also performed with Australian Icon, Renee Geyer.
